Dear Harrington Park Families,

This past Monday, October 14, Mr. Tommy Perides notified other members of the Board of his resignation from the Harrington Park Board of Education.  Mr. Perides has served on the Harrington Park Board of Education since 2017 and we are extremely appreciative for his contributions, his time, and his ongoing advocacy for the community, its students, and their education over the past seven years.  While the Board is saddened that Mr. Perides will no longer be serving alongside us on the Board, we are extremely grateful for his time on the Board and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

When a Board vacancy arises, the Board of Education has 65 days to appoint a new Board member.  Because of the timing of the resignation, the appointed Board of Education member will serve for the remainder of Mr. Perides’s term, which ends on December 31, 2025.  Should the member appointed wish to remain on the Board beyond that date, they would need to run for election for a full term in the November 2025 elections.

Any Harrington Park resident interested in filling the Board of Education vacancy - please send a letter expressing your interest and a resume to:

  • Mr. Bryan Jursca

  • Harrington Park Business Administrator / Board Secretary

  • jursca@hpsd.org

The deadline for applications is Monday, November 11.  On the following Monday, November 18, all interested applicants must attend the Board of Education meeting, at which they will be interviewed by the Board during public session.  Following all interviews, the Board will go into executive session to discuss the selection and then return to public session, at which time they will vote to appoint a new Board member.  The newly selected Board of Education member will then have 30 days to complete a criminal background check.  Once the criminal background check has been completed successfully, the newly selected Board of Education member will be officially sworn in at the next scheduled Board of Education meeting and will formally begin serving on the Board at that time.

Should you have any questions regarding the appointment process, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Jursca at the email noted above.  We look forward to meeting with all candidates interested in serving on the Board in November.

Sincerely,

Matthew Lehmann, Harrington Park Board of Education President
