From the Desk of the President of the Harrington Park Board of Education.
The Board had a regular session on Wednesday to conduct normal business as well as to conclude the Interim Superintendent search process.
After going through all the applications for the interim position and interviewing three highly qualified candidates, the Board decided to appoint Ms. Jessica Nitzberg as the Interim Superintendent for the 6-month term starting on January 1st, 2023. We are excited to have Ms. Nitzberg step up and continue to build on the Harrington Park School culture and spirit without missing a beat.
The Board deliberated internally as well as with community members about the interim position. Ultimately, the Board came to a consensus and felt good about the decision from a financial and stability perspective. More importantly, the Board is confident Ms. Nitzberg is very capable to perform successfully as an Interim Superintendent.
The Board will now shift our focus to a permanent Superintendent search. Following the milestones laid out previously, we are in the process of receiving proposals from firms that can assist the District with the hiring and public engagement. The Board will determine the scope of services needed while being cognizant of the overall expenses.
On another note, the Board recognized Mr. Mark Torrie for his leadership role in implementing the Daily Mile by presenting him with a plaque. Mr. Torrie’s idea that started from the Self-Directed Growth Plan was recognized by Review magazine as a best practice in New Jersey Schools. We are proud to have him at HPSD. My children all loved the Daily Mile and it allowed healing opportunities during strenuous times.
Lastly, Student Council members gave their monthly report. It was great to hear the Candy Count and Halloween Costume contests were successful and fun!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones.
Sincerely,
Stephen Hahm
